HITCHCOCK — One of Galveston County’s longest-standing traditions returns Friday as the Galveston County Fair & Rodeo opens its gates for nine days of rodeo action, carnival rides, live music and family-friendly events at Jack Brooks Park.
The annual event, which runs through April 25, is expected to draw thousands of visitors from across the Gulf Coast for a mix of entertainment, agriculture and community tradition.
Opening day features the first night of rodeo competition, along with livestock contests, carnival attractions, a petting zoo, Breeder Row and a variety of food and shopping vendors spread throughout the fairgrounds.
Live music is also set to take center stage Friday night, with performances by William Beckmann and Wynn Williams.
Held each year at Jack Brooks Park in Hitchcock, the fair has long served as more than just a community event, with organizers emphasizing its role in supporting local youth, agriculture and education programs.
According to event organizers, last year’s fair raised more than $1 million through youth auctions and provided more than $162,000 in scholarships.
The fair continues through next week with rodeo events, livestock shows, cook-offs, concerts and educational exhibits celebrating the county’s agricultural roots.
Doors open Friday at the Galveston County Fair & Rodeo Grounds, located at 10 Jack Brooks Park Road.
