City governments do lots of things. From ancient times to present date the most important city functions are public safety & economic development. In the ancient world people formed cities and built walls for protection and to foster trade (jobs!). Today, we do the same via a local police force and fostering economic development (jobs!). Executing on these requires collecting taxes, managing the money, and then paying staff to do the above.
Today, Texas City is Headed in the Wrong Direction.
Across all three, the current city of Texas City Commission has failed.
Our local police are staffed at only 2/3 capacity. That’s 1/3 of our public safety missing. Meantime, our city has grown by 8,000 residents. Instead of fixing the problems which led to this situation, the city created a new police “association” (aka union) to silence cops. You read that correctly; in a city rich with organized labor, the current city administration voted to bust a union!
More housing brings in more people. These people become customers for anyone providing goods and services locally; food, clothing, entertainment, maintenance. A developer was planning to build 4,000 new homes in our city which would have brought ~9,000 new residents. That’s 9,000 customers for eyeglasses, dental services, automative repairs, restaurants. The current administration killed off this development.
State law requires all cities publish an audit of the city’s financial books within 180 days of the end of a fiscal year or lose the ability to raise taxes. Until just this month, the City’s last audit was 2023. The 2024 audit just published is a case study in fiscal mismanagement and incompetence. And 2025 is not yet out; we have no real idea what’s in the books. Our auditor for decades has departed; in the audit business this is often a signal that an audit firm sees continued association with its client as a business risk.
Change is Required; Top Three (3) Change Agenda Action Plans.
Change is required across city leadership. The incumbents who allowed – indeed supported – the above to occur have got to go. With new leadership in place, we can quickly turn things around.
Here’s my 3 top priorities:
( 1 ) Cops. A new chief, hired in from outside will bridge the cultural gaps dividing the department. Increasing comp will make our city competitive vs surrounding areas. Combined, we can restore our police in perhaps as short as 90 days.
( 2 ) New leadership, a cleaned house, and marketing that lets businesses know we are open for business will re-ignite interest in developing the area off the golf course road. We have an opportunity to restart the negotiations for the 4,000-home development described above. 4,000 homes, 9,000 new residents will drive jobs growth.
( 3 ) A new CFO, a forensic audit by a reputable public accounting firm will end the financial shenanigans and ensure any mismanagement and malfeasance is halted.
For Voters That Agree Change is Required, I’m the Change Candidate.
I’ve published numerous articles detailing the above, supporting my points with evidence. These are my signature issues; dig in and voters will find that once I post an article it’s quickly echoed by other candidates. The thing I’ve tried exemplify to the city is that a fact-based approach, combined with transparency, accountability, and candor are my calling card. All are foundational to building trust and I’m hopeful to earn the public’s trust.
Contact me anytime via Facebook Messenger. Election Day is Saturday May 2nd. If you agree with the above points – that change is required – I’m asking for your vote.
