TEXAS CITY — A man has been arrested following an investigation into the alleged distribution of synthetic narcotics into correctional facilities across Texas, according to the Galveston County Precinct 1 Constable’s Office.

On June 2, deputies with the Galveston County Precinct 1 Constable’s Office assisted the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Fugitive Task Force in the arrest of Deidrick Capers at his residence in Texas City.

The arrest stems from an investigation conducted by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Office of Inspector General and the United States Postal Inspection Service. Authorities obtained an arrest warrant out of Dallas County charging Capers with Manufacture or Delivery of a Controlled Substance, Penalty Group 2-A, between one and four grams. Bond on that charge was set at $50,000.

According to investigators, Capers allegedly mailed synthetic narcotics commonly known as K2 into correctional facilities across Texas. Authorities said K2 has been linked to numerous overdoses, medical emergencies and deaths in correctional facilities throughout the country.

Following the arrest, investigators executed a search warrant at Capers’ residence. During the search, deputies recovered more than 80 grams of synthetic narcotics and discovered what authorities described as a small laboratory used to prepare and package the drug for distribution.

Based on evidence recovered during the search, the Galveston County Precinct 1 Constable’s Office additionally charged Capers with Manufacture or Delivery of a Controlled Substance, Penalty Group 2-A, between four and 400 grams. Bond on that charge was set at $150,000.

Capers was booked into the Galveston County Jail. Authorities said additional charges from other jurisdictions are expected as the investigation continues.
