LEAGUE CITY — A Galveston County jury has convicted a League City man of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, resulting in a 15-year prison sentence, according to the Galveston County District Attorney’s Office.
Prosecutors said Cesar Gutierrez Duran Jr. was found guilty Tuesday of possessing more than four grams but less than 200 grams of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.
The case stemmed from an October 2025 arrest by League City Police K-9 Officer Jason Jones, who was serving two outstanding felony warrants from Brazoria County. During a search, Jones discovered multiple baggies of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
According to prosecutors, Duran’s girlfriend asked what officers had found, and Duran responded, “work.” Authorities said the baggies contained 10.5 grams of methamphetamine packaged for distribution.

At the time of his arrest, Duran was already out on bond in a separate Galveston County case in which he was alleged to have possessed 13 grams of methamphetamine.
During trial, prosecutors Brianna Stark and Quinten McConico presented testimony from Officer Jones, whose body camera footage was shown to jurors. Prosecutors said the video showed Duran reaching toward his pockets before his arrest in an apparent attempt to conceal contraband.
The state also presented testimony from a Texas Department of Public Safety crime laboratory analyst, who testified the baggies contained quantities commonly distributed as “8 balls.”
Both Duran and his girlfriend testified that they were heavy methamphetamine users and that Duran intended to give some of the methamphetamine to her. Prosecutors argued the evidence supported an intent-to-deliver charge.
After approximately two hours of deliberations, the jury returned a guilty verdict. Following the conviction, Duran received a 15-year prison sentence. Prosecutors noted he has previous drug-related convictions.
The case was heard in the 212th Judicial District Court before Judge Patricia Grady.
