Texas City Issues All-Clear Following Marathon Fire Incident

City Bulletin Avatar

TEXAS CITY — A shelter-in-place order issued Sunday following a reported fire at the Marathon facility in Texas City has been lifted, according to the Texas City Police Department.

The shelter-in-place was initially issued for an area extending from Bay Street to State Highway 146 as emergency responders responded to the incident and monitored air quality conditions.

As crews continued assessing the situation, officials narrowed the affected area to a section of Texas City between 14th Street and 34th Street while air monitoring operations remained underway.

Authorities said no injuries were reported in connection with the incident.

According to the Texas City Police Department, emergency responders conducted air monitoring throughout the event and did not detect the presence of chemicals. However, officials said the shelter-in-place remained in effect for a period of time as a precaution because of a large plume of smoke.

Later Sunday, officials issued an all-clear and announced that the shelter-in-place order had been lifted. Emergency responders continued air monitoring as a precaution, but authorities said no additional action was required from the public.

The cause of the reported fire was not immediately released.
