TEXAS CITY — Residents will have an opportunity to learn about hurricane preparedness and emergency planning during a Hurricane Town Hall hosted by the City of Texas City this week.
The event is scheduled for Thursday, June 25, from 5:45 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Doyle Convention Center, located at 2010 5th Avenue North. Doors will open at 4:30 p.m.
According to city officials, attendees will receive information about the upcoming hurricane season, evacuation procedures, emergency preparedness, and steps families can take now to prepare for potential storms.
Texas City Emergency Manager Joe Tumbleson said the goal of the event is to encourage residents to make plans before a storm threatens the area.
The event will include free food and drinks for attendees. City officials said the first 200 families will receive hurricane preparedness buckets containing supplies and emergency information.
Organizers will also hold raffles for several prizes, including a generator, Houston Astros tickets, and emergency preparedness backpacks. A separate social media giveaway will offer participants a chance to win a 65-inch television by sharing a hurricane preparedness tip.
The Hurricane Town Hall is free and open to the public.
Additional information is available through the City of Texas City.
