According to the health district, the positive mosquito sample was detected in the far northern area of Friendswood near the Brazoria County line.
Health officials said there have been no reported human cases of West Nile virus and no positive sentinel animals in Galveston County.
The Galveston County Health District is encouraging residents to reduce their risk of mosquito bites by using insect repellent, wearing long sleeves and pants during dawn and dusk when mosquitoes are most active, and eliminating standing water around homes where mosquitoes can breed.
