SANTA FE — A juvenile has been charged with possession of visual material depicting sexual assault following an Internet Crimes Against Children investigation in Santa Fe, according to the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office.

The investigation began in June after Detective W. Harris, a member of the Houston Metro Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, received a cyber tip from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), the sheriff’s office said.

On July 23, investigators with the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office, working alongside the Houston Metro ICAC Task Force, executed a search warrant at a residence in the 13000 block of Jan Lane in Santa Fe.

During the search, investigators seized multiple electronic devices that will undergo forensic analysis, according to the sheriff’s office.

As a result of the investigation, authorities identified a juvenile suspect who was charged with possession of visual material depicting sexual assault, a first-degree felony under Texas law.

Because the suspect is a juvenile, the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office did not release the individual’s name or any identifying information.

The sheriff’s office said the investigation involved assistance from several agencies participating in the Houston Metro ICAC Task Force, including Homeland Security Investigations-Galveston, the Pearland, La Porte, La Marque and Dickinson police departments, the FBI’s Texas City office and the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit.

In a statement accompanying the announcement, the sheriff’s office encouraged parents to regularly monitor their children’s internet activity, including cell phones, tablets, gaming devices and other online platforms. Officials said the arrest marks the second juvenile taken into custody within the past month in Galveston County on allegations of possessing child sexual abuse material.

Because the suspect is a juvenile, the allegations remain subject to the juvenile justice process.
