League City Animal Care earns no-kill recognition for 2025 live release rate

Stevie Bernardoni Avatar

LEAGUE CITY — League City Animal Care has been recognized by Best Friends Animal Society after achieving a live release rate of at least 90% in 2025, meeting the nationally recognized benchmark for designation as a no-kill shelter.

A live release rate measures the percentage of animals leaving a shelter through positive outcomes, including adoption, return to their owners or transfer to rescue organizations.

City officials said the recognition reflects the efforts of Animal Care staff, volunteers, foster families, adopters, rescue partners and community members who support the shelter’s mission.

League City Animal Care credited adoptions, family reunifications, foster care, lifesaving medical treatment and rescue partnerships with helping thousands of animals find positive outcomes.

The city said it plans to continue supporting the shelter’s efforts to provide compassionate care while helping more pets find safe, permanent homes.
