SAN LEON — A suspect was taken to a hospital after a fire broke out while a SWAT team was serving a warrant Monday evening in San Leon.

The warrant was being served on Seventh Street around 6:41 p.m. when the fire started, according to information obtained by KGTX 7 News at the scene.

Fire crews had already been staged nearby during the SWAT operation but were positioned on Sixth Street to keep them away from potential crossfire.

Crews then encountered another challenge when they found no fire hydrants available at their staging location. Firefighters had to run a hose across a field to reach a water connection.

An assistant fire chief told KGTX 7 News it took crews approximately 20 minutes to contain the fire.

The suspect was taken to a hospital for treatment of burns, smoke inhalation and tear gas exposure.

Information about the warrant, including what charges the suspect may face, was not immediately available.

The incident occurred near the 400 block of Sixth Street and Seventh Street in San Leon.
