GALVESTON — A 22-year-old man has been arrested after police say he shot another man twice following an altercation early Monday morning in Galveston.

Mitchell Willis was arrested on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon following the shooting, according to the Galveston Police Department.

Officers initially responded around 1:25 a.m. Monday, Aug. 10, to the 2900 block of Avenue L following reports of a shooting and a person suffering from a gunshot wound.

During the investigation, officers detained two suspects at a residence in the 1200 block of 29th Street.

Shortly afterward, police received another report of a man suffering from a gunshot wound near 28th Street and Avenue J. Officers located the victim with two gunshot wounds.

The man was taken to the UTMB Emergency Department, where police said he was listed in fair condition.

Investigators determined the victim had been involved in an altercation with one of the suspects detained on 29th Street. Police allege Willis fired a handgun twice, striking the victim.

Officers also recovered a firearm believed to have been used in the shooting.

Willis was booked into the Galveston County Jail on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Police said his recommended bond was set at $150,000.
