The storms could continue into the early afternoon, when daytime heating, Gulf moisture, atmospheric instability and the sea breeze will be strongest.

Rain could be heavy at times, but storms are expected to remain scattered. Showers and thunderstorms should begin clearing by the middle to late afternoon as high pressure builds into the region.

Friday’s high temperatures will be in the lower 90s, with heat index values reaching as high as 106 degrees. Overnight lows will remain in the lower 80s. Patchy fog could develop Friday evening and overnight because of elevated moisture levels.

Winds will be from the south at 10 to 15 mph.

Dry, sunny and hot weekend

Patchy fog may be present Saturday morning but should lift as temperatures rise. Mostly sunny skies are expected during the day, followed by clear skies Saturday evening.

High temperatures will be in the lower 90s, with heat index values potentially reaching 109 degrees. High pressure will remain over the region throughout the weekend, keeping conditions dry and hot.

Winds will be from the south at 5 to 10 mph. Humidity may gradually increase throughout the day as southerly winds bring additional Gulf moisture into the region.

Saturday night will be clear, with low temperatures in the lower 80s. Patchy fog could develop overnight.

High pressure will remain the dominant weather pattern Sunday, bringing another day of dry and sunny conditions. High temperatures will again reach the lower 90s. Although heat index values are expected to be slightly lower, it will remain hot and humid.

Clear skies are expected Sunday evening, with low temperatures in the lower 80s. Humidity will gradually increase as southeasterly winds continue carrying Gulf moisture into the area. Patchy coastal fog could develop Sunday night.

Residents should take precautions during the hottest portions of the day. Remain in air-conditioned spaces when possible, drink plenty of fluids and limit strenuous outdoor activity. Wear lightweight clothing, sunscreen, hats and sunglasses when outside, and check on children, older adults, neighbors and pets.
