DICKINSON — A 46-year-old Dickinson ISD educator was arrested Wednesday after an investigation allegedly found evidence of an improper relationship between her and a 16-year-old student.
Kristi Hanks was arrested on a charge of improper relationship between an educator and student, according to a news release from the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office.
The investigation, conducted by the Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit, began in early August after authorities received a report from the Galveston County Juvenile Justice Center. The Juvenile Justice Center and the Office of Inspector General assisted in the investigation.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Hanks worked at the Galveston County Juvenile Justice Center during the summer, providing educational instruction to students there.
Investigators collected material evidence, conducted multiple interviews and obtained an admission from Hanks, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Authorities allege the investigation found Hanks maintained regular contact with the 16-year-old outside of academics and engaged in an inappropriate relationship with the student.
The Galveston County District Attorney’s Office determined there was probable cause to charge Hanks and recommended a $100,000 bond.
An arrest warrant was issued Aug. 19. Hanks was taken into custody during a traffic stop near her home by members of the Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit, with assistance from the Crime Reduction Unit.
