Missing stop sign contributed to San Leon crash, sheriff’s office says

Lyndi Guthrie Avatar

SAN LEON — A van entered FM 517 without stopping and struck a truck early Sunday because a stop sign was not in place amid road construction, according to the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash happened around 12:13 a.m. at FM 517 and 28th Street.

Chief Deputy Villarreal said the van was traveling south on 28th Street toward FM 517 when it continued into the intersection and hit the truck. The truck then struck a power pole, causing damage that CenterPoint crews later repaired.

Emergency crews arrived to find two vehicles in a ditch. Multiple ambulances were reported at the scene, but Villarreal said there were no major injuries.
