GALVESTON COUNTY — ISD Schools across Galveston County are expected to remain in session this week as Tropical Storm Edouard approaches the upper Texas and southwestern Louisiana coasts.

All Galveston County independent school districts that have announced plans will operate on their regular schedules. The exception is Galveston ISD’s Crenshaw Environmental Science Magnet School on the Bolivar Peninsula, which will be closed Tuesday. True Cross Catholic School in Dickinson will also close.

Galveston ISD will also suspend bus transportation between the Bolivar Peninsula and Galveston Island. Other district campuses will remain open.

School districts said they are monitoring weather conditions and will notify families if additional changes become necessary.

Tropical Storm Edouard formed Monday evening in the northwestern Gulf of Mexico. The National Hurricane Center’s forecast cone extends across portions of Southeast Texas and southwestern Louisiana, with the storm expected to reach the coast Tuesday.

The storm could bring heavy rain, strong wind gusts and coastal flooding to portions of the region. A tropical storm warning includes the Bolivar Peninsula, while Galveston County could experience periods of heavy rainfall as the storm moves inland.

Families should continue monitoring official district communications for possible schedule or transportation changes. Forecasts may also change as the storm approaches the coast.
