Missing Houston fisherman found dead near Galveston’s South Jetty

GALVESTON — A 77-year-old Houston man who failed to check in with his family after fishing overnight was found dead near Galveston’s South Jetty on Monday, according to the Galveston Island Beach Patrol.

U.S. Coast Guard Sector Galveston contacted Beach Patrol at approximately 2:16 p.m. requesting assistance in the search for the missing fisherman.

Beach Patrol units searched the man’s last known location and found him deceased in shallow water on the ship channel side of the South Jetty.

Authorities did not immediately release the man’s identity or provide information about the circumstances surrounding his death.

Beach Patrol said Jesse Tree and the Survivor Support Network are providing support to the man’s family.

Additional details were not immediately available.
