GALVESTON — A 30-day law enforcement operation targeting violent fugitives and other wanted offenders resulted in 465 arrests and the clearance of 595 warrants across Galveston, Brazoria, Chambers and surrounding counties, the U.S. Marshals Service announced Tuesday.

Operation Washout – Texas Tide ran from July 29 through Aug. 28 and was led by the U.S. Marshals Service Gulf Coast Violent Offenders and Fugitives Task Force – Galveston.

The operation brought together 16 federal, state and local law enforcement and prosecutorial agencies across the region.

In addition to the arrests, authorities reported seizing 23 firearms, approximately $21,000 in currency and more than 300 kilograms of narcotics during the operation.

According to the U.S. Marshals Service, investigators focused on violent felony offenders, known gang members, firearm-related and narcotics offenders, and people wanted on outstanding warrants.

The operation covered multiple counties within the Southern District of Texas, with participating agencies sharing intelligence and resources to locate suspects, including those whose alleged criminal activity crossed jurisdictional boundaries.

“These arrests represent dangerous offenders removed from our streets, outstanding warrants resolved, and communities made safer,” U.S. Marshal for the Southern District of Texas T. Michael O’Connor said in announcing the results.

Assistant Chief Deputy U.S. Marshal Regino Quintero, who oversees Marshals Service operations in Galveston and surrounding areas, credited cooperation among participating agencies for the results of the monthlong operation.

“The 465 arrests, 595 warrants cleared, and significant seizures achieved during Texas Tide reflect the professionalism and commitment of every agency and every law enforcement officer who contributed to this operation,” Quintero said.

Agencies participating included the U.S. Marshals Service Gulf Coast Violent Offenders and Fugitives Task Force – Galveston, Homeland Security Task Force Fugitive Investigative Strike Team, FBI, Drug Enforcement Administration and Texas Department of Public Safety.

Local agencies included the Galveston Police Department, Texas City Police Department, La Marque Police Department, Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office, Chambers County Sheriff’s Office, Galveston County Precinct 1 Constable’s Office and Harris County Precinct 2 Constable’s Office.

The Texas Board of Criminal Justice Office of Inspector General and district attorney’s offices in Galveston, Brazoria and Chambers counties also participated.

Authorities said the operation was designed not only to apprehend wanted individuals but also to develop intelligence for ongoing and future investigations.

The U.S. Marshals Service did not provide a county-by-county breakdown of the 465 arrests or 595 warrants in its announcement.
