LEAGUE CITY — A Dickinson police officer pulled a driver from a burning vehicle early Wednesday morning after responding to a crash along Interstate 45, according to the Dickinson Police Department.

Police received multiple emergency calls reporting a major crash on I-45 at approximately 2:56 a.m. Sept. 2.

Officer Brown with the Dickinson Police Department responded and located the vehicle near Exit 19.

When Brown arrived, police said he saw flames coming from the vehicle’s engine compartment and approached the vehicle, where he found the driver still seated inside.

The driver was the vehicle’s only occupant.

As Brown checked on the driver, police said the fire began rapidly spreading from the engine compartment into the passenger compartment.

Brown removed the driver from the vehicle and dragged him away from the burning vehicle to safety, according to Dickinson police.

Authorities did not release information about the driver’s condition or what caused the crash.

Investigators later determined the crash occurred within the League City Police Department’s jurisdiction. The investigation was turned over to League City police.

Dickinson police commended Brown for his actions, saying his quick response helped protect the driver’s life.

League City police are continuing to investigate the crash. Dickinson police said no additional information was being released because of the ongoing investigation.
