FRIENDSWOOD — Fresh off an outstanding victory over Texas City, Friendswood added another dominant win to its record, defeating the Clear Brook Wolverines 71-11.

Star quarterback Josh Brister finished the game with three touchdown passes, including a 53-yard strike and a 33-yard pass to receiver Jackson Owens that extended the Mustangs’ lead to 50-3 in the third quarter.

Friendswood’s defense created havoc for Clear Brook’s offense, keeping the Wolverines out of the end zone through the first three quarters. The Mustangs forced five turnovers, recording three interceptions and recovering two fumbles.

One of the defensive highlights came just before halftime when linebacker Judson Stevens tackled Clear Brook running back Austin Cole in the end zone for a safety.

Head coach Jordan Johnson spoke with KGTX 7 News about the team’s confidence and the improvements it made after correcting mistakes from its game against Texas City.

Although satisfied with the result, Johnson said the Mustangs still have work to do as they pursue their larger goals.

“One thing I told the guys about this game was, no matter what happened, what the outcome of this game was, it couldn’t get us any closer to the playoffs; it couldn’t get us any further away,” Johnson said. “Once district starts, the feel changes in terms of finality and what games mean. That’ll be another obstacle for us to figure out. Can we go out there, produce and execute at a high level in a game that really does mean something?”

Friendswood will begin district play Sept. 11 against the Victoria East Titans in Victoria, Texas. Victoria East enters the matchup with an 0-1 record.
