PEARLAND — Two Florida men were arrested after Pearland police responded to reported suspicious activity at a bank ATM and pursued a vehicle that officers said fled from a traffic stop.

Officers were dispatched around 6 p.m. Sept. 16 to a bank in the 9900 block of Broadway Street after dispatchers received a report of a masked man making multiple ATM transactions with several cards and withdrawing large amounts of cash, according to the Pearland Police Department.

While officers were responding, the suspect entered the passenger seat of a white GMC Sierra, which left the area.

A Pearland police Crime Reduction Unit officer and the department’s Drone First Responder 1 system located the vehicle in a business parking lot in the 2500 block of Smith Ranch Road, police said.

The passenger got out of the vehicle and began walking away. A CRU officer detained the passenger while the driver fled the parking lot in the GMC Sierra, according to police.

Additional officers attempted to stop the truck, but police said the driver failed to stop, leading to a vehicle pursuit.

During the pursuit, officers said they saw the driver throwing large amounts of cash from the vehicle.

The pursuit traveled north on Smith Ranch Road, east on McHard Road and then north into the 1600 block of Max Road, where the vehicle stopped. Officers conducted a high-risk traffic stop and took the driver into custody without further incident.

Police recovered more than $6,000 in cash that had been thrown from the vehicle during the pursuit.

The passenger was identified as Tarvares Givens, of Florida, and was arrested and charged with failure to identify.

The driver was identified as Levon Steven Jr., of Florida, and was arrested and charged with evading arrest and tampering with evidence.

Police said the investigation remains ongoing and detectives are investigating whether additional fraud-related charges are warranted.

Givens and Steven remained in custody at the Brazoria County Jail at the time of the department’s release.
