Texas City announces Breast Cancer Awareness Month events

TEXAS CITY — The City of Texas City is hosting several events throughout the week in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, culminating with the 12th annual Breast Cancer Awareness Walk/Run on Saturday, Oct. 3.

The schedule began Monday, Sept. 28, with a free Zumba Night from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Wings of Heritage Room at the Nessler Center, 2010 Fifth Ave. N.

On Tuesday, Sept. 29, the city hosted a free Pilates in the Park at Carver Park, 6415 Park Ave. The event begins at 6 p.m.

A free Line Dance Night is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 30, beginning at 6 p.m. in the Wings of Heritage Room at the Nessler Center.

On Thursday, Oct. 1, a mobile mammogram screening unit will be available at the Lowry Fitness Center, 1900 Fifth Ave. N., from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Appointments should be scheduled with Leonora Mata at 409-643-5877.

The week’s events will conclude Saturday, Oct. 3, with the 12th annual Breast Cancer Awareness Walk/Run. The event begins at 8 a.m. at the Rotary Pavilion in Nessler Park, 1700 Fifth Ave. N.

Participants may walk or run in recognition of people who have battled breast cancer, those currently undergoing treatment or in memory of loved ones who have died from the disease.

Following the walk/run, food trucks and vendors will be available in the park.

The events are organized by the City of Texas City as part of its Breast Cancer Awareness Month activities.
