TEXAS CITY is gearing up for its annual 409 Day celebration this Thursday, April 9, with events, discounts, and giveaways across the city. The day, named for the city’s area code, has become a popular local tradition.

City residents and visitors can enjoy free admission at the Texas City Museum, discounted buckets of balls at Bayou Golf Course, a $4.09 day pass to the Lowry Fitness Center, and flowers planted in the shape of a 409 at Bay Street Park’s butterfly garden.

Local businesses are also joining the celebration with specials including $4.09 margaritas, burritos, pizzas, slices of cake, and more. Other offerings include discounted oil changes, service deals, hidden 409-themed fidgets, a $409 wedding special, and giveaways at several locations throughout the city.

Community events include a free carnival at Temple Baptist Church from 5-7 p.m., a 409 Day celebration at Trinity Baptist Church from 3-6 p.m., open gym basketball with Gulf Coast Mambas youth basketball, and a career and job fair at Workforce Solutions.

The festivities will culminate at the 6th Street Community Plaza from 6-8 p.m., featuring mechanical bull rides, caricatures, airbrushed hats, games, crafts, face painting, music, animal adoptions, and giveaways—even for pets.

Jennifer Laird, Texas City Communications Director, encouraged everyone to join the celebration and show off their “409 spirit.” “Get creative and have fun! Anyone and everyone can be part of 409 Day,” Laird said.
