GALVESTON — A 59-year-old man was arrested Friday in connection with two indecency with a child charges stemming from allegations reported to the Galveston Police Department last year.
According to a police statement, investigators began looking into the case after two adult victims reported alleged sexual assaults on Oct. 9, 2025. The victims told investigators the incidents occurred when they were juveniles and identified Philip Cruz Tamayo as the suspect.
The Galveston Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division investigated the allegations before presenting the case to the Galveston County District Attorney’s Office for review.
Police said the district attorney’s office approved two counts of indecency with a child against Tamayo, with recommended bonds set at $40,000 for each charge.
Tamayo was arrested May 8 by Galveston police detectives and members of the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Violent Offender Task Force before being transported to the Galveston County Jail.
Authorities said no additional information is being released in order to protect the identities of the victims.
Anyone with information related to the investigation is asked to contact the Galveston Police Department at 409-763-3770 or Galveston County Crime Stoppers at 409-763-TIPS.
Port of Galveston Police Department’s Chief Brown did not respond to our emails for comment, but did tell the Galveston Daily News that Tamayo was a former police officer, until 2024.
