SANTA FE — Two people were arrested Tuesday following an investigation into the alleged possession and purchase of illegal catalytic converters at a recycling center in Santa Fe, according to authorities.

Officials said the operation involved members of the Gulf Coast Auto Crimes Task Force, Organized Crime Task Force and Crime Reduction Unit, working alongside the Texas Department of Public Safety Regulatory Services Division.

The investigation focused on the Derichebourg Recycling Center in Santa Fe.

Authorities said investigators recovered 45 catalytic converters during the operation.

Gregory Robinson, 65, and Kimberly Uresti, 49, were both arrested and charged with unlawful possession of catalytic converters, a state jail felony, according to officials. Both were booked into the Galveston County Jail.

Officials said the Gulf Coast Auto Crimes Task Force is a multi-agency unit funded by the Motor Vehicle Crime Prevention Authority and includes investigators from several local law enforcement agencies across Galveston and Brazoria counties.

Participating agencies include the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office, League City Police Department, Galveston Police Department, La Marque Police Department and Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office.
