GALVESTON – A former Boy Scout leader and NASA engineer from the Houston area has been sentenced to 80 years in prison after a Galveston County jury convicted him in a child sexual assault case involving multiple accusers.
According to court records, Robert Griffin Alexander of League City was found guilty Thursday of aggravated sexual assault of a child. Prosecutors said the abuse involved a 12-year-old boy and occurred over several years beginning in 2000.
According to the Galveston County District Attorney’s Office, the victim first contacted law enforcement in 2017. Two of his brothers later told investigators they had also been abused by Alexander. The family became acquainted with him through Cub Scouts, where Alexander served in a leadership role.
The investigation was revisited in 2022 after another man accused Alexander of sexually abusing him during a separate four-year period that began in 2010. That renewed inquiry led to additional charges, including indecency with a child by contact.

Over the course of the trial, prosecutors called four men to testify about allegations of abuse they said occurred during their childhoods. Jurors delivered a guilty verdict Thursday after hearing several days of testimony.
During Friday’s sentencing phase, three more men testified, bringing the total number of accusers presented in court to seven. One of those witnesses traveled from Alabama, to speak before the jury.
Jurors sentenced Alexander to 80 years behind bars. Under Texas law, he will be eligible for parole after serving 30 years of the sentence.
Alexander still faces pending charges in New Braunfels tied to allegations from two witnesses connected to the Galveston County case.
