BACLIFF — A 17-year-old was arrested following a shooting investigation and SWAT response at a residence in Bacliff, according to the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded June 23 to reports of a shooting in the 4200 block of Roberts Lane. When they arrived, investigators located multiple shell casings but did not find any victims at the scene.
According to the sheriff’s office, surveillance video captured a suspect firing multiple rounds at a vehicle as it was leaving the area.
Investigators identified the suspect as Eric Martinez, 17. Members of the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division, Major Crimes Unit, and Crime Scene Unit responded to investigate.
Detectives later obtained a search warrant for a residence on Roberts Lane where Martinez and the firearm believed to have been used in the shooting were reportedly located.
Authorities said Martinez refused to leave the residence and barricaded himself inside. The sheriff’s office also reported that Martinez had an active warrant for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
The Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team and a K9 unit were deployed to the scene. According to investigators, the K9 located Martinez hiding in a closet with a child inside the residence.
During a search of the home, deputies recovered two handguns. Investigators said one of the firearms had been reported stolen in Harris County.
Martinez was taken into custody and charged with Deadly Conduct — Discharge of a Firearm and Theft of a Firearm. Authorities said his total bond was set at $100,000.
