
TEXAS CITY — A 26-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a shooting that left one woman dead and another person injured Tuesday afternoon in Texas City.
According to the Texas City Police Department, officers responded at approximately 2:45 p.m. on June 23 to reports of a shooting in the 3400 block of 9th Avenue North.
When officers arrived, they found two individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. Both victims were transported to area hospitals for treatment.
Police identified one of the victims as 25-year-old Nakia Kelley of Texas City. Authorities said Kelley later died from her injuries.
Following an investigation, detectives identified 26-year-old Kristian McMurrin as the suspect. Police said McMurrin was located and taken into custody without incident later the same day.
According to investigators, the Galveston County District Attorney’s Office accepted charges of Murder and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon against McMurrin.
McMurrin was booked into the Texas City Jail pending judicial proceedings.
The identity of the surviving victim has not been released.
