DICKINSON — A house fire caused extensive damage to a home in Dickinson Thursday afternoon, leaving the residence a total loss, according to the Dickinson Volunteer Fire Department.

Assistant Chief Jeff Billiott told KGTX 7 the fire was reported at approximately 1:50 p.m. in the 300 block of Bayou Drive.

Firefighters arrived to find an attic fire involving a single residence. Before crews reached the scene, a passerby rescued a dog from inside the home.

No one was inside the residence when the fire began, and no injuries were reported.

Billiott said the home is being considered a total loss due to the combined fire and water damage.

The Dickinson Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire, which remains unknown.

Fire crews remained on scene until approximately 6 p.m. Mutual aid agencies from La Marque, Santa Fe, Bacliff, Galveston, and League City assisted with the response.
