
LEAGUE CITY — Two people were arrested Thursday morning after a traffic stop on Interstate 45 escalated into a vehicle pursuit that ended in a League City neighborhood, according to the League City Police Department.
Police said the incident began at approximately 9:05 a.m. when an officer with the department’s Traffic Division observed a white Hyundai Tucson allegedly speeding in the 2400 block of the northbound Interstate 45 main lanes.
According to investigators, the officer initiated a traffic stop and the vehicle pulled onto the shoulder near the 700 block of Interstate 45. As the officer approached, the driver allegedly fled, leading officers on a pursuit.
Authorities said the pursuit continued northbound on Interstate 45 before the driver exited at El Dorado Boulevard, made a U-turn, and traveled southbound. The vehicle later exited at FM 518 and entered League City, eventually stopping near the intersection of Landing Boulevard and Merrimac Drive in The Landing subdivision at approximately 9:13 a.m.
Police identified the driver as 24-year-old Keshawn Gaines of Texas City. Investigators said Gaines exited the vehicle and fled on foot through the neighborhood, jumping several fences before being located in the backyard of a nearby residence and taken into custody at approximately 9:16 a.m.
The passenger, identified as 25-year-old Mykenzie Streadwick of League City, remained with the vehicle and was taken into custody without incident.
According to police, Gaines was charged with Evading Arrest or Detention with a Vehicle, Tampering with Physical Evidence, and Evading Arrest or Detention on Foot. Authorities said his total bond was set at $152,500.
Streadwick was charged with Tampering with Physical Evidence and was held on a $25,000 bond, according to police.
Both individuals were transported to the League City Jail.
The League City Police Department said multiple agencies assisted during the incident, including the Texas Department of Public Safety, Galveston County Sheriff’s Office, Galveston County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office, Harris County Sheriff’s Office, Harris County Precinct 8 Constable’s Office, and the Houston Police Department.
