Weekend Overview

- Hot and muggy conditions continue
- Moderate to high rip current risk continues through the weekend
- Saharan Dust beginning to arrive
- Rain chances less than 10%, increase in rain chances expected mid next week
Heat Continues

We have an upper level ridge of high pressure currently dominating the weather pattern for most of Texas, centered over the Big Bend region of Southwest Texas. This is causing the temperatures to soar into the lower 90’s, with heat index values consistently above 100 degrees.
The high pressure system will also continue to keep rain chances at less than 10% each day, although some spotty morning showers cannot be entirely ruled out this weekend.
Long story short it is going to be quite hot and muggy this weekend with no cool down relief expected until mid-next week. So make sure to stay hydrated and stay safe.
Saharan Dust

You may notice the skies this weekend turning hazy and have a slight orange tint. This is because we have some Saharan Dust making its way across the Atlantic Ocean right now being blown into the Gulf and subsequently into portions of the Gulf Coast, including Galveston County.
Looking at our Satellite Imagery above, you can make out the dust. Look inside the circled region and you can see a hazy tan color. This is the dust being transported across the Atlantic Ocean currently.
The main impacts from this will be decreased air quality, especially when the bulk of the Saharan Dust arrives Sunday into Monday.
You may notice the skies have been slightly hazy already, which is due to the beginning of the dust beginning to make its way into the region, and also due to wildfire smoke being blown by the upper level winds from the Utah wildfires.
