FRIENDSWOOD — A 20-year-old Houston man has been charged in the burglary of Pearland Coffee Roasters in Friendswood, where police say more than $6,000 in cash was stolen early Tuesday morning.

The burglary occurred around 3:36 a.m. Sept. 1 at the coffee shop, located at 201 S. Friendswood Drive, according to the Friendswood Police Department.

Investigators used surveillance video and other investigative tools to identify Tanerio Jenkins and a vehicle believed to have been involved in the burglary, police said.

The following day, Sept. 2, Friendswood police arrested Jenkins during a traffic stop on Highway 3 in Webster.

During a search of the vehicle Jenkins was driving, officers found a backpack containing a firearm, marijuana and approximately $3,600 in cash, according to police.

Investigators said Jenkins later admitted the firearm had been used in an attempt to open two safes and told investigators the recovered money was connected to the Pearland Coffee Roasters burglary.

The Galveston County District Attorney’s Office accepted a charge of burglary of a building against Jenkins. His bond was set at $100,000.

Police said investigators will be able to return the recovered $3,600 to the business owner.

Investigators also believe Jenkins may be connected to multiple other business burglaries in the surrounding area. Police did not identify those businesses or provide details about the additional investigations in the initial announcement.
